FREE ECOMMERCE CALCULATOR

Partial Refund Calculator

Calculate a partial customer refund after restocking fees, return shipping, fixed deductions and optional tax or original-shipping refunds.

Enter your figures

Use figures from your store records. Results are estimates and do not determine legal or marketplace eligibility.

How this calculator works

A partial refund should be transparent and traceable to the terms shown to the customer. Enter the item value and any permitted deductions to estimate the final amount. Laws and marketplace rules vary, so confirm that each deduction is allowed before issuing a refund.

Formula used

Estimated refund = item price + refundable tax + refundable original shipping − return shipping − restocking fee − other deductions.

Worked example

For a $120 item with $9 tax, a 10% restocking fee and $8 return shipping, the estimated refund is $109 when tax is refunded and original shipping is excluded.

How to get a more reliable estimate

Use completed-return data from a consistent period. Include all costs that change because the return occurred, and avoid treating the original retail price as recovered value. Review carrier invoices, warehouse labor, payment reports and actual resale outcomes. If the item condition is uncertain, calculate a conservative and an optimistic scenario.

The output is designed for internal planning. It does not override consumer law, tax treatment, warranty obligations, payment-provider rules or marketplace policies.

QUESTIONS

Partial Refund Calculator FAQ

Can I deduct both shipping and a restocking fee?

That depends on your disclosed policy, marketplace terms and applicable consumer law. The calculator performs arithmetic; it does not determine whether a fee is legally permitted.

Is sales tax normally refunded?

Tax treatment varies by transaction and jurisdiction. Use the toggle that matches your actual order and payment-platform treatment.

Why is the original delivery fee separate?

Original and return shipping are often handled differently, so separate controls produce a clearer breakdown.
